MAP: 10 Mississauga areas with most COVID-19 cases in 2020

The City of Mississauga and Peel Region has been identified as a pandemic hot spot for several months.

While all of Peel Region Health's 136 Mississauga pandemic tracking zones contributed to city's 14,872 cases between Feb. 23, 2020 to Jan. 2, 2021, the 10 zones that saw the most cases combined for 2,772 — or 18.6 per cent — of them.

The first confirmed COVID-19 case in Mississauga was identified on March 5. After a first-wave spike between March and May, cases numbers dipped throughout the summer until September. Brampton's second wave was officially declared in October and the city has seen growing record cases counts ever since.

Malton, where Toronto Pearson Airport is located, saw the most cases last year by a wide margin, accounting for six of the 10 zones with the most cases in 2020.

The 10 areas with the most cases in 2020 are marked on the map and red and indicate the total number of cases in each of those areas.
